2019 Wild Earth Central Otago Pinot Noir
A delicious example of a Central Otago Pinot Noir
Located at the bottom of New Zealand's South Island, Central Otago is well known for its spectacular scenery and premium quality wines. This is a land of extremes, where mountains meet lakes and shield deep valleys from the rain leading to an arid landscape, where temperatures can reach 35C during the day and drop to freezing at night - perfect conditions for Pinot Noir. The hot days give plenty of heat for the vines to photosynthesise and respire, but the cool nights slow down the ripening allowing the grapes to develop complexity and depth. Low rainfall contributes to keeping the bunches small and berry weights down leading to exceptional concentration.
Established in 1998, Wild Earth Wines owns 35 hectares of vineyards in two of Central Otago's finest locations - Felton Road, Bannockburn and North Lowburn. The grapes for this wine come from the 'Terraces' vineyard in Felton Road, Bannockburn. This wine is bright garnet in colour with aromas of raspberry, sweet cherry, cedar, wild thyme, and mushroom. The palate is rich in texture and has flavours of red and black berries, wild herbs and of course earth! It is well structured with multiple silky layers.
