2022 Rafael Palacios `Louro Do Bolo` Valdeorras Godello
A high-quality example of one of Spain’s most talked about white wines
Rafael Palacios has become one of Spain’s most respected producers of white wine and his Godello vineyards in Valdeorras, Galicia produce some of Spain’s most interesting white wines. Here, vines cohabit with the rocks and stones that define the landscape. The hills are so steep that most of the vineyards are planted on terraces buttressed by stones. Godello wine is rising in popularity. It is medium-bodied, and at its best, is refreshing and laden with citrus.
Rafa’s ‘Louro do Bolo’ is made from small parcels of Godello with an average age of 25 years, grown at over 600 metres above sea level. The juice is fermented in large French oak foudres, after which the wine is aged on lees for four months before bottling.
This wine is full of intense aromas of lemon, orange blossom and fennel with a flinty edge. On the palate, there is plenty of textural complexity to compliment the fruit flavours and saline finish.
