2023 Santiago Ruiz `Rosa Ruiz` Rías Baixas Albariño

Nestled in the south-west corner of Galicia on the Atlantic coast bordering Portugal's Vinho Verde region, Rias Baixas has firmly established itself as the star region of modern Spanish white wines.  The Ruiz family has been making wines here since the 1860s. Ángel Ruiz, Santiago’s grandfather, was one of the first people to bottle wines in the region. Santiago then picked up the baton and continued the pioneering spirit of his grandfather by installing the first ever stainless-steel tanks in Rías Baixas. He was also a key figure in the establishment of the Rías Baixas DO in the 1980s.  Albariño is the dominant grape in the region which produces a delightfully refreshing white wine, loved for its rich stone fruit flavours, zippy acidity and hints of the sea.  For seafood lovers, Albariño is a fantastic choice.

The ‘Rosa Ruiz’ is a 100% Albariño that comes from old, pergola-trained vines planted in San Miguel de Tabagón. These old vines produce low yields of extremely concentrated fruit, packed full of flavour.  Pale yellow in colour, clean and bright. On the nose intense aromas of apricot and ripe lemon are married with tropical hints of papaya and mango and subtle floral nuances. On the palate there is a broad and rich texture and a vibrant acidity carries the pronounced flavours onto the long and elegant finish.
