Featured Red Wine for March – 2018 Poggio al Tesoro ‘Il Seggio’ Bolgheri

Published on March 10, 2022

Bolgheri is in the coastal Maremma region of Tuscany in northern Italy.  The area first rose to prominence during the 1970s with the emergence of the Super Tuscan wines like Ornellaia and Sassicaia, non-traditional Bordeaux style blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.   The actions of the Super Tuscans inspired a generation in Italy.

The featured Winecroft white wine for March is the 2018 Poggio al Tesoro ‘Il Seggio’ Bolgheri.  Matured for 15 months in French oak this wine is intense ruby red in colour with aromas of fresh crunchy red berries and dark fruit notes enriched with layers of tobacco and spice.  The palate is vibrant with fresh acidity, has a silky, dense tannic texture, and a generous, lengthy finish.  Super!
