Featured White Wine for February – 2017 Cullen Mangan Vineyard Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

Published on February 2, 2022

A perfect winter white.  The classic white grape blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon is synonymous with the Bordeaux region of France.  The grapes work so well together because Sémillon brings body and rounds out Sauvignon Blanc’s tart acidity and herbal notes.  The featured white wine for Winecroft members for February is not from Bordeaux but from Margaret River in western Australia and has wonderful new-world ripeness of fruit.   It is complex and richly textured, full of tropical pineapple, guava, and freshly cut grass aromas, from the Cullens’ biodynamically farmed Mangan Vineyard in Wilyabrup, Margaret River.  On the nose complex aromas of gooseberries and citrus fruit combine with freshly cut grass. The palate has intense citrus fruit notes of lemon and lime rounded out by honeydew melon. These pure fruit flavours are sustained on a long savoury finish.

This wine has recently been featured on the winelist of Restaurant Coworth Park.
