Featured White Wine for June – 2019 Castell d’Encus Costers del Segre ‘Ekam’

Published on June 14, 2022

Raul Bobet is one of the greatest winemakers in Spain.  He established Castell D’Encus in 2001 to escape from the dramatic effects of global warming.  The estate sits at 1000 meters above sea level, in the northern part of DO Costers del Segre, in the Pallars Jussà, an isolated, cool, and quiet place in Catalonia, ideal for hermits! Farming organically, he chose to plant Riesling, Pinot Noir, Albariño, Sauvignon, Sémillon, Syrah, and the classic Bordeaux varieties. Soils are mainly limestone, low in organic matter, hold excellent sun exposure, coupled with significant day/night temperature variations, ensuring fine ripeness allied to racy acidity.

The Winecroft featured white wine for June is the 2019 Castell d’Encus Costers del Segre ‘Ekam’.  It is a blend of Riesling and Albariño. Elegant and delicate with crisp acidity. Citrus, apricot, and floral notes.  Light-bodied but complex.

This wine is on the winelist at The Glasshouse, the Michelin-starred restaurant in Kew Gardens.
