2021 Villa Wolf Riesling Wachenheimer
A delicate Riesling with great complexity from a top producer.
Germany, with its cool climate and long winemaking history, produces the world’s most exceptional Riesling wines. The Pfalz region, located in southwestern Germany, is the country’s second-largest wine-producing area and is known for its warmer, sunny climate and diverse soils. Here in the village of Wachenheim at the centre of the esteemed “Mittelhaardt” area of the Pfalz, is the Villa Wolf estate. Patrick Moellendorf, who has been at Villa Wolf since 2011, is in charge of the viticulture and winemaking. The concept of making extraordinary wines in the estate vineyards lies in sustainable, vineyard practices combined with gentle handling of the fruit and traditional, minimalist winemaking. The well drained, weathered sandstone soils produce pure, fruit-driven wines with a distinctive stony character. The fruit for the Villa Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling comes from a single-vineyard site, called Königswingert (“King’s Vineyard”). This excellent site lies just to the north of the village and is rated as a premier cru vineyard.
The 2021 Villa Wolf Riesling Wachenheimer is dry with lovely concentrated ripe flavours (lemon, apple, pear, peach) and fresh acidity giving a great depth of flavour.
