The sound of a cork being pulled from a bottle of good wine is once again the highlight of the day for many of us currently in Lockdown 3.0. With no way of escaping and no alternative venues for socialising other than your own front room, these January days can be long and hard.
It’s true, previous generations have faced harder times – there are no bombs dropping from the sky!, as an older neighbour reminded me recently. It is hard though. However, getting through these tough times does not mean all pleasures must be sacrificed. We deserve some time each day to escape from Zoom meetings and news of the spreading virus and more Donald Trump tweets.
So, if you are a wine lover, why not make some time each day to enjoy a glass – either on your own, with family, partners, flatmates or even remotely over a video link! A good wine inspires contemplation, which is almost always welcome, especially if once again, your conversation is with yourself!
A couple of great wines from the expanding Winecroft club list are perfect company during Lockdown 3.0 and are the Winecroft featured wines for January, the 2018 Allram Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben, an outstanding Austrian Grüner Veltliner – a great alternative white for Chardonnay lovers and the 2016 Tamar Ridge Pinot Noir, a sumptuous award-winning example of new world cool-climate Pinot Noir, from Tasmania.
