Featured White Wine for August – 2019 Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling

Published on August 11, 2020

A glass of dry Riesling is perfect to quench your thirst during these warm summer evenings.  For many of us though, the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Riesling is sweetness – and yes there are many rich sweet styles out there.  However, a top-notch dry Riesling is very different and is something really special.  It is no coincidence that it is known as the Sommelier’s favourite grape.

We are featuring a wonderful bone-dry Riesling from the Winecroft clublist for members in August.  The 2019 Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling is from Clare Valley, an hour north of Adelaide in South Australia.  Clare Valley is well known for its taut, lime-sherbet Rieslings.

The Mount Horrocks Clare Valley vineyards are all organic and the wines are vegan and vegetarian friendly.  The 2019 Watervale Riesling combines delicacy with structure and is remarkably fragrant with lemongrass and fresh cut lime flavours. Crisp and juicy with a pure, long finish.

This wine has recently featured on the winelists of Hakkasan Mayfair, Elystan Street Restaurant and Chez Bruce.
