Mount Etna wines are the product of a harsh but beautiful land. They are made from grapes grown on the slopes of Europe’s largest active volcano. The terrain is rough, but the wine it produces is refined and complex. The local red grape, Nerello Mascalese, is a light-bodied red wine with a taste profile that’s often likened to fine Pinot Noir. It is a wine that speaks of the history and the struggles of the people who grow it. To taste a Mount Etna wine is to taste the very essence of Sicily. It is a bold and adventurous wine that will transport you to the heart of this fiery land.
The Winecroft featured red wine for April is the 2016 Terrazze Dell’Etna `Carusu` Etna Rosso. This wine has an intense ruby colour with garnet edges. An elegant nose, with delicate perfumes, perfectly combined with ripe red fruit and spice. Round, soft tannins on the palate end with a delicate finish. The Carusu Etna Rosso is the perfect portrait of the site where it is produced.
This wine is on the winelist of Jamavar, the Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in Mayfair, London.
