2016 Raïdis Estate Billy Cabernet Sauvignon
A wonderful example of a mature Coonawarra Cabernet that is drinking perfectly.
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted grape variety in the world and Coonawarra, a small strip of land in the heart of the Limestone Coast in South Australia, is one of the few regions where free draining soils and maritime ripening conditions achieve the ultimate varietal expression. Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon has the savoury elegance and structure of a Bordeaux yet the fruit purity, ripeness and concentration of Australia. The award-winning Coonawarra ‘clarets’ of the 1960s through to the 1990s represent a golden era for the region when legendary medium bodied wines with fine acid and tannin structure aged for 20 years or more. Coonawarra’s current winemakers are working with the benefit of mature vines, modern, innovative viticultural practices and refined oak use to create today’s modern wine styles.
Raïdis Estate is a boutique estate in the heart of the Coonawarra. It was started by Chris and Fran Raïdis more than 40 years ago, and today it is owned and operated by the next generation of the Raidis family, Stevo and Emma. They live their dream every day making premium, minimal intervention wines using sustainable vineyard practices.
