2018 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana
Fresh, snappy Italian red wine with wonderful pure dark-cherry fruits
Carmignano is a village, a little west of Florence. The wines of the area are dry reds based on a blend of Sangiovese (at least 50% of the final blend), Canaiolo Nero (up to 20%), Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc (10–20% each). The wines are similar in style to its more famous cousin (and neighbour) Chianti but tend to be fuller in body.
The Villa di Capezzana has an elegance which marks the Capezzana estate out from the crowd. Black-skinned fruit and cedar aromas come together in this blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fresh, structured palate delivers juicy black plum, tobacco and white pepper notes over a frame of chewy tannins.
