Le Marche | Italy

An award-winning Italian white from the green hills above the Adriatic coast

The Marche region down the Italian Adriatic coast south of Romagna from Rimini to Ancona and beyond is in an exciting stage of evolution and improvement.  The most famous white wine is Verdicchio, a lemony, characterful dry white whose quality has increased enormously in recent years. The two best known classified areas for this grape variety are Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi and, from further into the green hills above the coast, Verdicchio di Matelica.  Cantine Belisario is in the Matelica DOC.  The climate here is more continental than in Castelli di Jesi and the combination of warm days and cool nights gives a longer growing season and lovely aromatic qualities to the wines.

The Cantine Belisario Vigneti B` Verdicchio di Matelica is produced in limited quantities from organically grown grapes, avoiding the addition of sulphites where possible. The result is a complex and unique example of Verdicchio di Matelica with wax and grapefruit aromas.  On the nose, it shows interesting aromas of golden apple, pink grapefruit and wax. On the palate, it is soft and round, with a long finish.  A perfect Italian aperitif.
