2022 Chateau Les Barraillots Margaux
An elegant and perfumed black fruit filled Bordeaux blend
On the west bank of the Medoc, north of the city of Bordeaux, is the world-renowned wine appellation of Margaux, known for it's silky, fragrant red wines. The best vineyards are located on well-drained slopes, and the soils are some of the lightest, most gravelly in the Medoc, which provides the wines with refinement and a smooth character.
Chateaux Les Barraillots was founded in the 1930s by Ferdinand Brunet, a cooper at the world-famous Château Margaux. Michel Brunet took over in 1963 and expanded the estate by planting more vineyards. Since 2002 Michel’s son, Yannick, has been managing the château, which these days stands out as one of the few remaining family concerns in this superstar appellation. It is very unusual to find an estate that fits the artisanal bill here and the results are delicious. Château Barraillots achieves the elegance, balance, and perfume that has long set Margaux apart from its neighbours, and does it on an artisanal scale.
Deep purple in colour with notes of prune and marmalade. The palate shows ripe, juicy fruit of blackberries and a touch of vanilla. The wine is well-balanced with a long finish.
