Inspired by the peaceful and perpetual flight of the Andean Condor (Vultur Gryphus), Vultur is a multi-award winning family winery that makes premium, characterful wines on a human scale, with minimum intervention and faithful to their origin in the Colchagua Valley of central Chile.  Here, sandwiched between the Andes Mountains and the Coastal Mountain Range, the valley’s arid Mediterranean climate enables red wine grapes to ripen slower with little intervention. Bordeaux grape varietals are the stars here and although Petit Verdot is used a little to boost colour, tannins, and alcohol in the blended red wines of Bordeaux, here it can be the main event since cool sea influence keeps the acidity fresh in the grapes providing wonderful balance to the wine.

Comprising of 90% Petit Verdot with a small 10% of Carignan, the wine is handmade in small batches. The majority of the wine undergoes 30 days of maceration and is aged in French oak barrels for 14 months.  Both varietal wines are blended together prior to being bottled, unfiltered. The resultant wine is beautifully textured with smooth tannins. The mouth-feel is full and weighty. The elegance of the Petit Verdot combines perfectly with the liveliness and freshness of the Carignan.  The nose is slightly spicy, offering notes of raspberries from the Carignan with the wonderful plum, lilac, violet and sage flavours coming through from the Petit Verdot.

    Taste Profile of this Wine

The Winecroft Wine Style Meter is a key tool to match you with the wines we believe that you’ll love. We do this by matching the style of each wine to your personal taste profile, which is established with the science-based Winecroft taste test.

The needle shows the style of the wine:

    • Light: These are delicate wines which are easy to drink.  Whites will be dry, crisp and zesty.  Reds will be paler in colour with lighter tannins (tannins create a drying sensation in your mouth).
    • Medium-bodied: These wines offer up loads of fruit flavours with a balance of zesty acidity and tannins (in the reds).
    • Full-bodied: Red will be bigger, bolder and have higher levels of tannin. Whites will be rich and creamy,

Our ongoing quest at Winecroft is to do away with winespeak so we can talk clearly about the wine. One of the ways we achieve this is by using our Wine Style Meter, a key tool to match you with new wines we believe that you’ll love. We do this by matching the style of each wine on our list to your personal taste profile, which is established with the science-based Winecroft taste test and will evolve as you taste new wines.

    Wines each month

Each month we will recommend 4 superb new wines to try, individually matched to your latest taste profile. As a new Winecroft member, you will receive these 4 wines, delivered to your door.  In subsequent months, you will have full control over the wines you receive. You may find your wine preferences evolve over time, you would prefer more red than white, or you decide last month’s recommended wines weren’t quite right for you. In which case, you can update your taste profile and change or add to the recommended wines each month. And if you enjoyed one of the bottles so much, you can always order more.  You may, on the other hand, find you are just too busy to think about it, in which case you can opt to receive the wines hand-picked for your profile.

The one thing that won’t change is that our members will always be drinking top-end wines that are on wine lists of the world’s best restaurants, for typically less than a third of the price.

(Quick note – for new members who have just made your first order, when you look at your order details you will see next month’s recommendation.  Initially, this will contain the same wines as your first order but don’t worry, the Winecroft team will be working behind the scenes to quickly update this with 4 great new recommended wines based on your profile.)
