2017 Corino Barolo La Morra
A wonderful example of a modern style Barolo – the Wine of Kings
Barolo, known as the "Wine of Kings" is a fine Italian red wine produced in Piemonte, north-west Italy. The region's signature grape variety, Nebbiolo, is the sole variety permitted for the wine which takes the village's name, Barolo. Nebbiolo is an exceptionally finicky variety to grow and like Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo takes on qualities and features from the soil and climate. Fragrant, complex and powerful Barolo is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status when the quality classification was introduced in 1980. This wonderful example of Barolo from the Corino estate, is made using grapes from prime sites from the commune of La Morra. Giuliano Corino, the present owner, produces modern-styled Barolo which is ready to drink sooner and is less austere than the traditional Barolos that need decades to soften.
This wine is bright garnet in colour. It has delicate aromas of red cherries, liquorice with a hint of smokiness. The palate is intense showing notes of dried raspberry jam, mint, cedar and tobacco.
