2020 Catherine Marshall Wines Pinot Noir Clay Soils
A wonderful alternative to Burgundian Pinot Noir from South Africa
Cathy Marshall is a wonderful winemaker in the cool climes of Elgin, South Africa. Her prowess has earned her a well-founded reputation for excellence, especially her award-winning Pinot Noirs.
In contrast to Cathy’s Pinot Noir on Sandstone Soils, this wine comes from heavier clay soils in the cool Elgin Valley; the resultant berries carry a deeper, more brooding character displaying layered, truffle savouriness and earthy forest floor with concentrated black cherry compote. Very Burgundy in style, there is extra depth and masculinity here, without the wine ever suffering as a consequence. This is first-rate, expansive Pinot Noir.
