Sourced from 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines grown within the commune of Santenay in the southern extremity of the Côte de Beaune, in the legendary Côte-d'Or - the heart of Burgundy, France.  Santenay vineyards are located at an elevation of between 200 and 375 metres and soil variations provide differing Pinot Noir's, from deep and powerful to those with a more elegant, gentle disposition.

This wine from Domaine Justin Girardin is classified as Bourgogne Rouge but all grapes are from the village of Santenay.  Domaine Justin Girardin is very much a family affair, with a winemaking heritage that stretches back to the beginning of the 19th century. Jacques (brother of Vincent) handed over the running of the 17ha family domaine to his son Justin in 2012. Whilst not being officially certified, Justin uses many organic techniques, as he is passionate about producing wines that express their terroir. The results are superbly perfumed, multi-layered wines.

The Domaine Justin Girardin Bourgogne Rouge is a classic example of a very good red Burgundy.  It is delicately perfumed - think rose petals, peony and violet with flavours of strawberry, earth and liquorice.   A lovely long finish.
